TCN Grants Access for Kainji Expansion to Boost Power

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) officially handed over the site for the construction of two 330kV bays to Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited (MESL) over the weekend. This handover enables MESL to commence civil, electrical, and mechanical work, as well as testing and commissioning activities for the project.
Upon completion, the two bays will facilitate the evacuation of power from two new turbine units, IG3 and IG4, which will have a combined generation capacity of 220MW at the Kainji power station. Ndidi Mbah, TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, confirmed the physical handover of the site, which is intended to enable the start of construction activities.
Abdulkadir Adamu, Chairman of the Project Technical Committee, described this development as a major milestone that strengthens TCN's ability to transmit additional electricity generated by the new turbines to the national grid. Romao Grisi, Chief Technical Officer of MESL, expressed gratitude to TCN for granting access to the site and assured that the project would be delivered within the agreed timeline.
