Oyo Principal Rescued After 56 Days of Captivity

Mr. Racheal Alamu, the principal of Princip Commun High School in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State, was rescued after enduring 56 days in captivity alongside dozens of students and teachers.

Speaking on Tuesday after her rescue, Alamu described the traumatic experience, highlighting the harsh conditions they faced in the forest, including heavy rainfall and intense sunshine. The captors punished children for making noise, with the youngest suffering severe treatment, including having their mouths tied and being beaten.

Male teachers faced harsher treatment, often being blindfolded and restrained. Despite the ordeal, Alamu confirmed that none of the victims experienced sexual abuse.

The group was frequently moved to evade security operations, often trekking for hours at night. Alamu, who has served in education for 28 years, expressed her deep emotional trauma from the experience and uncertainty about returning to work in rural areas.

The rescue operation was conducted by security forces, leading to the safe return of the victims.
