Minister Tegbe Reports 100 Days of Power Sector Progress

At an Abuja Media Parley, Tegbe, the Minister of Power, discussed the Ministry's achievements in the first 100 days, acknowledging ongoing issues with unreliable electricity and high self-generation costs faced by many Nigerians. He outlined the administration's focus on enhancing national generation and transmission while ensuring consistent supply for consumers.

Key milestones included the restoration of the 375MW Alaoji open-cycle power plant, the installation of new transformers that unlocked 672MW of transmission capacity, and a peak generation of 5,330MW recorded in August and September. The Ministry also installed 62 solar and mini-grid systems, providing 43.6MW of solar capacity and 41,735 new connections.

The Renewable Asset Management Company (RAMCO) was launched to manage renewable-energy assets. Tegbe noted that ₦1.23 trillion was raised to address a ₦3.3 trillion debt backlog, with 350,000 meters installed in the first 100 days.

He reiterated that there are no plans to increase electricity tariffs, aiming for improved reliability and customer experience.
