Telecoms Sector GDP Contribution Hits 9.19% in Q1 2026

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reported that the telecoms sector's contribution to Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased from 7.67% in Q3 2025 to 9.19% in Q1 2026. This growth follows a series of fluctuations, including a drop to 8.12% in Q4 2025 after a previous high of 16.06% in Q2 2023.
The sector's contribution had also declined to 7.51% in Q3 2024 due to a rebasing by the NCC. The growth trajectory resumed with contributions of 7.80% in Q4 2024 and 8.50% in Q1 2025, before reaching 9.20% in Q2 2025.
Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria, attributed the recent increase to a 50% tariff price adjustment approved by the NCC in 2025, which enhanced investor confidence and led to increased investments in network upgrades and service quality. Adebayo emphasized the importance of government policies and regulatory standards in fostering this growth.
