NDLEA Dismantles Major Meth Lab in Oyo State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a significant operation last week, dismantling a methamphetamine laboratory located in a forested area of Ibarapa North Local Government Area, Oyo State. This operation resulted in the recovery of 2.4 tons of methamphetamine and chemical materials valued at ₦362 million.

This bust follows a similar operation in October 2026, where a multi-billion naira methamphetamine laboratory was uncovered in Abidagba Forest, Ijebu East Local Government Area, Ogun State. Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, emphasized the agency's commitment to combating drug trafficking and called for a review of operations to address the growing drug crisis in Nigeria.

The report from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) indicates that Nigeria faces a significant drug consumption crisis, with a prevalence rate of 14.4%, nearly three times the global average. The NDLEA's actions are part of broader efforts to enhance security and tackle the illicit drug trade in Nigeria.
