Dino Melaye Critiques Nigeria's Electricity Crisis

Dino Melaye, a former lawmaker representing Kogi West, expressed his frustration with the Nigerian government's handling of the electricity sector, stating that Nigeria's power production is significantly low, with a century of inadequate output. He compared Nigeria's electricity generation to that of South Africa, which produces 48,000 megawatts for 60 million people.

Melaye emphasized that the issues are not merely technical but stem from poor governance, leading to unstable electricity supply. He pointed out the ongoing instability in the power sector and mentioned that the government has spent $8.8 billion to rectify these issues, citing data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Furthermore, he highlighted the mounting debt within the power sector as a critical concern.
