Melaye Criticized for Outfit at ADC Protest in Abuja

Dino Melaye, a former Kogi Central Senator, has faced backlash for wearing a reportedly 2.6 million naira outfit during a protest organized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja. Ossai Ovi, an aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed displeasure over Melaye's attire at the protest, which focused on demanding better governance and creating employment opportunities for young people.

The ADC intensified its dispute with INEC during the demonstration, where party members sang Nigeria's national anthem. They later submitted a letter to INEC Chairman Joseph Amupitan, dated April 8, 2026, calling for his resignation due to alleged misconduct and misuse of office.

The ADC accused the commission's leadership of losing neutrality and suggested that certain actions indicated bias toward specific groups, further arguing that INEC officials should publicly explain court rulings that violate the principles of separation of powers.
