Baltimore Faces Water Crisis Amid Severe Drought Conditions

Baltimore is currently experiencing a water crisis impacting about 1.8 million residents across Baltimore, Harford, Howard, and Carroll counties. The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) has issued an urgent plea for voluntary water restrictions due to a significant rainfall deficit of 10-15 inches since last fall.

Meteorologists have indicated that the region is facing severe drought conditions, with the Prettyboy Reservoir plummeting 6 feet below normal levels and the Liberty Reservoir down 2 feet. The situation has been exacerbated by a heat wave and dry weather, prompting local leaders to call for immediate changes in daily water usage habits.

Residents are advised to take shorter showers, turn off faucets while brushing teeth, and avoid watering lawns. Nearby Middletown, Maryland, has already implemented an outright ban on lawn watering.

The DPW warns that without conservation efforts, the water supply could face total system collapse later in the summer.
