Ojo Predicts Makinde's Support May Wane Before 2027 Elections

Adebayo Mutalubi Ojo, the former Oyo State Commissioner for Justice and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has forecasted that Governor Seyi Makinde could lose the backing of some politicians currently supporting him ahead of the 2027 general elections. Makinde is the presidential candidate for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

During an appearance on the political podcast OpenForum360 in Ibadan, Ojo stated that many of Makinde's supporters are likely to withdraw their support as the election nears, predicting a clearer political landscape by December 2026. He emphasized that while Makinde's popularity is a significant asset, it could also become a liability for his preferred successor, Bimbo Adekanmbi.

Ojo noted that the political dynamics could have been different if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had conducted transparent primaries. He also mentioned the contrasting vocal grievances within the All Progressives Congress (APC) compared to the PDP, highlighting various political figures whose positions are being monitored.
