Peter Obi Raises Security Concerns Ahead of 2027 Elections

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed serious concerns regarding his safety during an interview with Chude Jideonwo. He suggested that the government of President Bola Tinubu is actively targeting opposition figures, which he described as a constant frustration.

Obi stated that the current political climate makes it difficult for him to participate freely in the upcoming 2027 presidential elections, indicating that he feels his life may be at risk. He did not directly accuse Tinubu's government of orchestrating these threats but noted that the government's actions create an environment of fear.

Obi referenced an incident at an airport where officials allegedly locked his car despite it being parked in a designated area, illustrating the challenges he faces. In response, Bayo Onanuga, a special adviser to Tinubu, dismissed Obi's claims as unfounded and misleading, asserting that there is no basis for such fears.

Despite this, Obi called for enhanced security measures to ensure his safety as he exercises his democratic rights.
