Police Chief Disu Calls for Ban on Tinted Vehicles

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu expressed a strong desire to outlaw tinted vehicles across Nigeria, citing serious security risks associated with their use, particularly in relation to kidnappings and armed robberies. Disu's comments were made in response to concerns raised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President Afam Osigwe, who opposed the commercialization of tinted glass permits.

Osigwe argued that while the NBA supports police oversight of the tint glass permit process, it should not become a revenue-generating venture. He emphasized that the process should not involve private companies collecting fees on behalf of the police.

Disu lamented the widespread use of heavily tinted vehicles, which complicates security operations and makes it difficult to identify occupants during routine checks. He announced that the police would intensify enforcement against illegal tinted vehicles, stating that no fully tinted vehicles would be accepted in the country.
