Sanwo-Olu Calls Tinubu a Lifelong Democrat in Lagos

On Thursday, during the seventh annual lecture organized by Freedom Online at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described President Bola Tinubu as a lifelong democrat dedicated to enhancing Nigeria’s democratic institutions. Sanwo-Olu stated that Tinubu aims to leave behind a stronger democracy than he inherited, serving as a model for Africa.

He referenced the August 15 Osun governorship election, where Ademola Adeleke defeated APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji by over 60,000 votes, as evidence of Tinubu's commitment to democratic principles. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be fully prepared for the upcoming 2027 elections, scheduled for January 16 and February 6.

He warned against political violence and electoral malpractice, asserting that no political ambition justifies loss of life. Sanwo-Olu also called for a rigorous press to hold politicians accountable and combat misinformation.
