Duke Warns Opposition: Unite or Risk 2027 Loss to Tinubu

On August 28, Donald Duke, the former Governor of Cross River State and presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), cautioned opposition politicians against underestimating President Bola Tinubu as they prepare for the 2027 general election. In an interview shared on the Symfoni podcast, Duke emphasized that a fragmented opposition risks handing victory to the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC).

He highlighted the electoral advantages of incumbency, stating that the control of state institutions by the ruling party creates a significant edge. Duke argued that opposition parties must unite to effectively challenge Tinubu, warning that individual ambitions could undermine their chances.

He metaphorically described Tinubu as a "lion with horns," indicating the danger of confronting him without adequate preparation. Duke's remarks come amid ongoing discussions among opposition figures about forming a coalition to challenge the APC, as concerns grow that a divided opposition could inadvertently strengthen Tinubu's chances for re-election.
