Tinubu Appoints Ogundipe as NUC Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the new Chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC). This appointment follows the resignation of Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who held the position for less than a year.

Professor Ogundipe previously served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos from 2017 to 2022 and is recognized for his expertise in botany, including molecular plant taxonomy, biosystematics, ethnobotany, cytogenetics, forensic botany, ecology, and conservation. He holds a PhD in Botany from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Lagos.

At 66 years old, Ogundipe is currently the Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer's University in Osun State and is a fellow of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Academy of Science and the Royal Society of Biology in London. As NUC Chairman, he is expected to provide visionary leadership and focus on enhancing the quality and accessibility of education in Nigeria.
