Tinubu Appoints Prof. Ogundipe as NUC Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Prof. Ogundipe as the new chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC) in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President.

This appointment follows the resignation of Prof. Olufemi Raphael Aina, who held the position for less than a year after being appointed in July 2022.

Prof. Ogundipe, who served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos from 2017 to 2022, is an expert in botany with a focus on molecular plant taxonomy, biosystematics, ethnobotany, cytogenetics, forensic botany, and ecological conservation.

He holds a PhD in Botany from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Lagos. Currently, he serves as the Pro-Chancellor of Redeemers University in Osun State.

As the new NUC chairman, Prof. Ogundipe is expected to oversee the regulatory body of the Nigerian university system, focusing on funding and global competitiveness in academia, aligning with the administration's agenda to advance quality and access in the education sector.
