Tinubu Nominates Ex-FUOYE VC Fashina for Ambassadorial Role

President Bola Tinubu has submitted Professor Abayomi Fashina's name to the Senate for confirmation as a non-career ambassador to the High Commission.

President Bola Tinubu forwarded Professor Abayomi Sundai Fashina's candidacy to Nigeria's upper legislative chamber for consideration in a non-career ambassadorial role at the High Commission. During Wednesday's plenary proceedings, Senate President Godswill Akpabio formally received this submission, alongside the President's request that the chamber expedite its review process.

At the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Fashina held the position of Vice Chancellor. His candidacy complies with constitutional frameworks governing diplomatic appointments, specifically drawing upon Sections 121, subsections 2, 3, and 4 of Nigeria's 1999 Constitution as amended.

Supporting documentation and a detailed curriculum vitae accompanied Tinubu's letter to lawmakers. The legislative body now bears responsibility for evaluating Fashina's suitability and proceeding toward confirmation.

Within his correspondence, the President urged acceleration of Senate deliberations consistent with constitutional provisions applicable to such diplomatic postings. Non-career ambassadors receive direct presidential appointment, distinguishing them from career foreign service officers.

Throughout his tenure, Tinubu has populated his diplomatic roster via such appointments, with Fashina representing one of several recent nominations. The timeframe for the Senate's legislative deliberation and subsequent voting will ultimately establish when confirmation concludes.
