Tinubu Appoints Oluwatoyin Ogundipe NUC Chairman

President Bola Tinubu appointed Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the chairman of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), succeeding the emeritus Professor Olufemi Aina, who resigned from the position less than a year after his appointment. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The appointment aims to advance the quality, access, and integrity of the Nigerian education sector, aligning with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda. Tinubu expects Ogundipe to provide visionary leadership to sustain the credibility of the Nigerian university system.

Ogundipe, who served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos from 2017 to 2022, specializes in molecular plant taxonomy, biosystematics, ethnobotany, cytogenetics, forensic botany, and ecological conservation. He holds a PhD in Botany from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Lagos.

At 66 years old, he is currently the Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer's University in Osun State and a fellow of several professional bodies.
