Tinubu's Key Role in APC Formation and 2015 Campaign

Babachir Lawal, who served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation under Muhammadu Buhari, claimed in an interview on Symfoni TV that President Bola Tinubu was crucial in the establishment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and financially supported the 2015 presidential campaign that led to Buhari's election. Lawal recounted how he facilitated the merger of opposition parties to form the APC, initially hesitant due to potential backlash from northern political figures but ultimately accepting the role at Buhari's insistence.

He noted that Tinubu deferred his own presidential ambitions to focus on defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Lawal described Tinubu's strategic support at the APC presidential convention, where he helped secure Buhari's candidacy by analyzing delegate strengths and persuading party members to back Buhari.

Additionally, Lawal asserted that Tinubu mobilized significant funds for the campaign and financed Yemi Osinbajo's independent campaign activities.
