CSOs Demand Withdrawal of Fasina’s Ambassadorial Nomination

A coalition of civil society organizations has called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the ambassadorial nomination of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti. The coalition cites unresolved allegations of sexual harassment against Fasina, which surfaced in January 2025 involving a female staff member.

Although the university's governing council cleared Fasina after an internal investigation found no evidence of harassment, the coalition argues that appointing someone with ongoing legal scrutiny undermines public trust in government institutions. They emphasize the importance of integrity in public office and the need to protect the dignity of individuals against gender-based discrimination.

The coalition has also pointed out that the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has launched an investigation following a petition from civil society organizations regarding the matter. They urge President Tinubu to suspend Fasina's nomination until the legal proceedings are resolved and call for thorough scrutiny by the National Assembly.
