Wike Backs Tinubu as Nigeria's Only Credible Leader

On Tuesday, during a monthly media briefing in Abuja, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu, asserting that he is the only credible leadership option for Nigeria. Wike emphasized that no other potential presidential contender has shown the courage or capacity to tackle the country's persistent economic issues.

He defended Tinubu's economic reforms, particularly the removal of the petrol subsidy, labeling it the boldest decision by any Nigerian president in decades. Wike acknowledged that while these reforms have led to temporary hardships for Nigerians, they have ultimately strengthened state finances, improved infrastructure funding, and reduced states' reliance on bank loans for salary payments.

He described the fuel subsidy as a "cancer" and noted that under the previous regime, it consumed over N3 trillion. Wike concluded that leadership is defined by the willingness to make tough decisions, highlighting Tinubu's political will to remove the subsidy despite its unpopularity.
