Tinubu Calls for Unity Against Insecurity in North-Central

On Monday, during the 2026 North-Central Regional Security Summit in Makurdi, Benue State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tasked stakeholders in the North-central region to enhance collaboration with government and security agencies to address insecurity and establish lasting peace. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Tinubu emphasized that no single security agency or tier of government could secure the region alone.

He called for overcoming rivalry and improving intelligence sharing among stakeholders. Traditional and religious leaders were urged to strengthen early-warning mechanisms and act as voices for reconciliation.

Tinubu highlighted that military action alone would not ensure sustainable peace and pointed out that factors such as competition over land and water, climate change, and the proliferation of illicit weapons contribute to insecurity. He directed the Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa (retd.), to ensure the summit’s recommendations are actionable, with clear responsibilities and timelines, aiming to restore peace and facilitate the return of displaced persons.
