Tinubu to Lead Africa Minerals Summit in New York

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to chair the Third High-Level Roundtable on Critical Minerals Development in Africa on September 21, 2026, in Manhattan, New York, coinciding with the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. This summit, organized by the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), aims to address the issue of Africa's mineral wealth being exported primarily as raw materials.

The theme of the summit is “From Resources to Wealth: Continental Cooperation for Mineral Value Addition.” The gathering will include African leaders, government representatives, global investors, and executives from various sectors, focusing on transitioning from an extract-and-export model to building integrated mineral value chains. The meeting is part of a broader strategy to enhance Africa's economic value from its substantial mineral deposits, including lithium, copper, and cobalt, which are crucial for global industries.

This initiative follows the Mutual Assured Development framework launched earlier in 2026 at the African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit in Abuja.
