Tinubu to Enhance Welfare for Elderly Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu revealed intentions to restructure the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) and institutionalize comprehensive welfare packages for elderly Nigerians. This initiative, disclosed by Dr.

Bode Olaonipekun, Director General of the NSCC, aims to enhance pension administration and provide specialized healthcare services for retirees. The plan includes expanding access to age-friendly medical services and ensuring that future generations of retirees enjoy better quality of life.

The Tinubu administration has demonstrated a renewed commitment to the welfare of older citizens, with policies designed to uphold their dignity. Olaonipekun emphasized the importance of investing in the welfare of senior citizens as a public policy obligation rather than a charitable act.

The administration's efforts are also geared towards mobilizing elderly Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections, targeting approximately 24 million votes from this demographic. The initiative seeks to restore dignity to senior citizens and ensure their active participation in the democratic process.
