Tinubu's Policies Favor Affluent Over Ordinary Nigerians

Sam Amadi, the Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, expressed concerns regarding President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that it prioritizes the welfare of the affluent rather than ordinary Nigerians. During an interview on Arise News, Amadi argued that the government's policies reflect its objectives and the social class it serves, indicating a focus on the business class and affluent entrepreneurs.

He noted that while subsidy policies are not inherently problematic, their effectiveness depends on the intended beneficiaries. Amadi acknowledged that the current administration's policies disproportionately benefit a small segment of society, specifically the top 1%, and emphasized that the focus is not adequately directed towards improving the lives of poor Nigerians.

He also mentioned that issues surrounding the petroleum subsidy system have historical roots, predating the current administration, and highlighted that past concerns were centered on corruption and benefits accruing to middlemen rather than the general populace.
