Tinubu Launches New Security Strategy with Famadewa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has initiated a National Threat Assessment and a rolling five-year Strategic Defence Operations Plan to address Nigeria's escalating security challenges. This strategy aims to transition from reactive measures to proactive planning, integrating various security institutions that have historically operated in silos.

Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa was appointed as Special Adviser on Homeland Security in May 2026, bringing extensive experience in intelligence, strategic planning, and inter-agency coordination.

His previous role as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser from 2015 to 2021 involved enhancing intelligence coordination, including the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre. This center aimed to unify information from multiple security agencies, emphasizing the importance of shared intelligence in combating terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and organized crime.

Tinubu's security model focuses on collaboration among institutions rather than competition, reflecting a significant shift in Nigeria's approach to national security.
