Tinubu's Directive to Unfreeze Osun Account Praised

President Bola Tinubu directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unfreeze the Osun State government’s statutory allocation account shortly before the August 15 governorship election. This action was noted by the Peering Advocacy and Advancement Center in Africa (PAACA) and Legis360 as a significant move that reduced political tension and created a conducive environment for a peaceful election.

Chief Ezenwa Nwagwu, Executive Director of PAACA, highlighted that the EFCC had frozen the account about ten days prior to the election due to alleged mishandling of approximately N11 billion in public funds, which heightened political sensitivities. The organizations stated that Tinubu's intervention demonstrated his commitment to democratic principles and helped lower political tensions.

Despite concerns such as voter inducement, low turnout, and violence, the independent review confirmed that the election results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were supported by polling-unit records.
