Tobi Amusan Wins Silver at World Athletics Championships

Tobi Amusan secured a silver medal and $75,000 prize money on the opening day of the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships held in Budapest, Hungary. The former world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles finished with a time of 12.34 seconds, placing behind American Masai Russell, who won gold with a time of 12.22 seconds.

Dutch sprint hurdler Nadine Visser completed the podium in third place with a time of 12.39 seconds. Amusan had previously qualified for the final by finishing second in her semi-final with a time of 12.49 seconds.

In a separate event, Nigeria's Ella Onojuvwevwo did not progress to the final in the women’s 400m after competing in the opening rounds. Additionally, Nigeria faced disappointment as the country was excluded from the final start list for the mixed 4x100m relay, despite having secured automatic qualification at the World Relays in Botswana.

Amusan's silver medal marks a positive start for Team Nigeria at the championships.
