Tobi Amusan Triumphs at Brescia 100m Hurdles Event

Tobi Amusan, the former world record holder in the women's 100m hurdles, won the event at the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy on Sunday, finishing with a time of 12.56 seconds despite facing a strong headwind of 1.7m/s. American athlete Alaysha Johnson secured second place with a time of 12.62 seconds, while Jamaica's Ackera Nugent took third in 12.75 seconds.

This victory is part of Amusan's preparations for the upcoming 2026 Diamond League Final. Just days prior, Amusan lost her world record to American Olympic champion Masai Russell, who set a new record of 12.09 seconds at the Zurich Diamond League.

Amusan finished second in that race with a season's best of 12.23 seconds. She had held the world record for four years after achieving a time of 12.12 seconds in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Amusan is a three-time Diamond League champion, having won titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and will compete against Russell again at the Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium, scheduled for September 4-5.
