Tottenham Transfers Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur announced on its website that they have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Argentina international defender Cristian Romero. Romero joined Tottenham from Atalanta in 2021 and made a total of 156 appearances across all competitions during his five-year tenure.

He played a crucial role in Tottenham's UEFA Europa League triumph in the 2024/25 season and was appointed captain for the 2025/26 campaign. Prior to joining Tottenham, Romero was part of Argentina's squad that won the Copa America and later became only the second Spurs player to win the World Cup, contributing to Argentina's victory over France in the 2022 World Cup final.

He also won another Copa America title in 2024 and reached a second World Cup final in the summer of 2023. Tottenham wished the 28-year-old defender well in his future endeavors following his departure.
