Troops Arrest Suspect with 1,341 Empty Ammunition Casings

On May 6, 2026, troops in Borno State apprehended a suspect who was found in possession of 1,341 empty ammunition casings measuring 12.7 x 99mm. This arrest occurred after an explosion in the Kaleri area of Jere Local Government Area.

Security sources indicated that the operation was a collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), who mobilized to the scene after receiving information about the explosion. Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered items are linked to the suspect's brother, a soldier serving at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri.

It is alleged that this soldier removed warheads from live rounds and diverted the empty cases for illegal sale. The suspect is currently in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances and potential networks involved in this case.
