Troops Dislodge Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Sokoto

Troops of the COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, conducted clearance operations in Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State, dislodging terrorist elements and recovering a cache of high-calibre weapons. The operation targeted areas used by armed groups for transit and staging.

According to Lt Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the troops advanced through villages including Manu, Alkasim, and Kandam, reaching the Magarya forest, a major hideout for terrorists. Contact was made with the insurgents, leading to an engagement that forced them to flee.

The operation resulted in the recovery of significant arms, including a PKT general-purpose machine gun, AK-47 rifles, and a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, as well as motorcycles and logistical items. This recovery is expected to degrade the terrorists' capacity for attacks on nearby villages.

The military aims to maintain operational dominance in the area and prevent the return of dislodged elements through ongoing surveillance and patrols.
