Troops Seize Illicit Drugs on Lagos-Calabar Road

On July 9, 2026, troops from the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army intercepted a truck transporting illicit drugs along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road. This operation was conducted following credible intelligence received by the Nigerian Army.

The successful interception led to the arrest of the truck driver. This seizure is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria.

According to statistics released by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), between January 2025 and the first half of 2026, the agency intercepted approximately 5,305,484.88 kilograms of illicit drugs, valued at an estimated N1.5 trillion. During this period, 29,262 suspects were apprehended, with 5,225 successfully prosecuted and convicted.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the illicit drugs were being transported from the Berger General Area in Lagos State. The NDLEA is conducting further investigations and will handle the prosecution of the suspects.
