Troops Thwart Boko Haram Attack in Kukawa, Borno State

On August 28, 2026, at approximately 2250 hours, Boko Haram terrorists attempted to attack Kukawa town in Borno State, targeting troops from the 101 Special Forces Battalion deployed there. The Joint Task Force North-East, under Operation Hadin Kai, responded with effective direct and indirect fire, compelling the terrorists to withdraw towards the Cross Kauwa axis.

During the engagement, several terrorists were neutralized, and others sustained injuries while fleeing. The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai was deployed to intercept the terrorists, successfully neutralizing an estimated 10 terrorists despite challenging weather conditions.

Follow-up operations tracked fleeing terrorists on motorcycles, leading to a precision strike that neutralized an additional 15 terrorists and destroyed 10 motorcycles. Ground troops recovered two motorcycles, neutralized one more terrorist, and seized assorted ammunition.

Four personnel sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were evacuated for medical attention. The operation effectively disrupted the attack and degraded the terrorists' operational capabilities.
