Troops Repel ISWAP Attack, Recover Weapons in Borno

On August 15, 2026, troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, repelled an attempted attack by ISWAP terrorists on Forward Operating Base Mandaragirau located in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. The attack commenced around 2:00 am, with terrorists launching a simultaneous assault from two directions.

Troops detected the attackers through surveillance systems and deployed a combat team to intercept them. A heavy exchange of fire ensued, and another group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate the base was also repelled.

The coordinated military response forced the terrorists to withdraw, leading to a hot pursuit where several terrorists were reportedly neutralized. Troops recovered AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher with bombs and chargers, and other equipment.

Surveillance footage indicated that the terrorists were dragging the bodies of some of their colleagues towards the Timbuktu Triangle. No casualties were reported among the troops, who were commended for their effective response.
