Joint Task Force Troops Defeat Terrorists in Borno

On September 17, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force (North East), under Operation HADIN KAI, engaged terrorists in Borno State, resulting in the deaths of several militants and the recovery of military equipment. The Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, reported that the troops detected terrorists advancing towards Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area, aided by intelligence from the Multinational Joint Task Force.

The troops implemented defensive measures, supported by close air support from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, which forced the terrorists to withdraw. Later that night, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters attacked FOB Mairari in Guzamala Local Government Area but faced strong resistance from the troops, who were also supported by air operations.

The attack was contained, resulting in casualties among the terrorists, with four corpses and various weapons, including AK-47 rifles and RPG bombs, recovered. Some troops sustained injuries and were airlifted for medical treatment.
