Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim, Arrest Suspect in Benue

On September 6, troops from the COAS Intervention Battalion XI, deployed at Torkula in Guma LGA of Benue State, rescued a kidnapped victim named Vincent Nyado along the Umene-Torkula road. Nyado was found tied and abandoned by the roadside after his abductors fled upon seeing the approaching troops during a patrol.

The operation was part of intelligence-led efforts to disrupt criminal activities in the OPWS Joint Operations Area, which includes Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States. On September 4, in Nasarawa State, troops of Sector 2 arrested a suspected kidnapper, Adamu Lamu, in Agyaragu after a 31-year-old victim, Nehemiah Elisha, escaped from his captors and alerted security personnel.

Elisha recognized one of the kidnappers at a market and informed the troops, leading to Lamu's swift arrest. The suspect has been handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Lt Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer at Headquarters JTF OPWS, emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.
