Troops Rescue 51 Kidnapped Victims in Nationwide Operations

Between August 14 and 20, 2026, troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria rescued 51 kidnapped victims and neutralized numerous terrorists and criminals nationwide, according to Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations. In the North East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI rescued three victims in Gwamnare Forest, Bauchi State, while five others escaped captivity.

In Borno State, a 63-year-old Cameroonian national was rescued, and 47 women and children linked to terrorist groups surrendered. In the North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA led to the recovery of 28 victims across Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto states, with four terrorists neutralized.

In the North Central, Operation WHIRL STROKE compelled kidnappers to release 13 victims in Kogi State, and a kidnap gang leader was neutralized in Nasarawa State. Additionally, firearms and explosives were recovered during various operations across the states.
