Trump Administration Restores LGBTQ Flag at Stonewall

The Trump administration has granted permission for the LGBTQ rainbow flag to fly permanently above the Stonewall National Monument in New York. This decision comes after a legal settlement with the Washington Litigation Group, which had initiated legal proceedings demanding the flag's reinstatement.

The flag was previously taken down in February due to a National Park Service edict that prohibited the display of flags other than the American flag, except at the Stonewall site, which commemorates the 1969 riots following a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in Manhattan's Greenwich Village. The settlement acknowledges the historical context of the flag and its importance to the LGBTQ community.

Alex Kristofcak, lead counsel for the plaintiffs, stated that the flag will be restored and will fly officially and permanently, with ongoing vigilance to ensure the government adheres to the agreement. The removal of the flag had provoked anger among LGBTQ groups and local activists, who had erected a replacement flag in protest.
