Atiku Claims Trump Backs His Fuel Subsidy Plan

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that U.S. President Donald Trump endorses his proposal to reinstate fuel subsidies in Nigeria if he wins the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku outlined his approach, which emphasizes supporting local production and refining of petroleum products to make fuel more affordable for Nigerians. He argued that increasing domestic production would alleviate pressure on consumers and enable lower prices at filling stations.

Atiku described his initiative as a "Production Subsidy," aimed at putting money back into the pockets of Nigerians by supporting local production and monitoring prices. He criticized the current administration under Bola Tinubu for opposing relief measures for ordinary Nigerians while providing incentives to multinational oil companies.

Atiku's remarks suggest a focus on economic strategies that prioritize domestic energy production and affordability for citizens.
