Trump Proposes Renaming New Mexico to 'New America'

On Sunday, United States President Donald Trump proposed renaming the state of New Mexico to "New America," claiming it would be "so much more prestigious and beautiful" for the state. His suggestion was made via social media and was quickly dismissed by New Mexico's Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, who stated that the name has historical significance and is "not up for debate." She accused Trump of attempting to distract Americans from pressing issues like rising gas prices.

This proposal follows Trump's recent actions, including signing an order to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America" during a trade conflict with Canada. Additionally, Trump had previously suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz to "Trump Strait" amid ongoing tensions with Iran, although he later implied he was not serious about that idea.

His administration's renaming efforts have faced rejection from both Canada regarding Lake Ontario and Mexico concerning the Gulf of Mexico.
