Tinubu Faces No US Movement Restrictions During UNGA

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, stated that President Bola Tinubu and his family enjoy unrestricted transit in the United States while attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Ibrahim confirmed that the Nigerian Mission in New York received no notifications from the US government regarding any movement restrictions on Tinubu.

He referenced Section 11 of the 1947 UN-U.S. Agreement, which protects representatives of member states and their families from transit impediments.

This statement comes amid ongoing legal disputes in the US concerning access to records related to Tinubu, specifically a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by American activist Aaron Greenspan. The Nigerian Presidency clarified that this case is civil and not criminal, asserting that Tinubu has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing.

Additionally, the Allied People’s Movement has called for the release of an FBI report concerning alleged drug-trafficking links involving Tinubu.
