Trump Commends Tinubu for Leadership Against Terrorism

In a letter dated July 6, 2026, United States President Donald Trump commended Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for his decisive leadership in addressing terrorism and violence affecting Christian communities in Nigeria. Trump expressed his honor in standing with Tinubu to strengthen Nigeria and combat terrorism.

The letter highlighted the flourishing US-Nigeria relationship, particularly in security collaboration, which includes the establishment of a Joint Working Group co-headed by the National Security Advisers of both nations. This collaboration has led to significant actions, such as the May 16 coordinated attack on ISIS hideouts in the Lake Chad area, resulting in the death of ISIS leader Abubakar Al-Minoki.

Additionally, US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Frank Garcia, recently visited Abuja to reinforce cooperation between the two countries. Trump emphasized the importance of the US-Nigeria relationship in the context of growing conflicts in West Africa and the global fight against terrorism.
