New Revelations on Gen. Abacha's Death by Ex-DSS Operative

Dennis Amachree, a former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), provided an account of the circumstances surrounding the death of former Head of State Gen. Sani Abacha, who ruled Nigeria from November 1993 until his death in June 1998.

In his book, "DSS @40: My Journey Behind the Shield," Amachree stated that Abacha died at approximately 4:05 a.m. during an intimate encounter at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He recounted that Abacha's girlfriend, an Igbo woman (name withheld), arrived at the villa around 2:40 a.m. with her younger sister, a pharmacist.

After the girlfriend left, the pharmacist was alone with Abacha when she realized he had stopped moving. In panic, she dressed and informed a soldier on guard that "Oga" had requested a car to return to her hotel.

The soldier arranged her transportation, and she left for Lagos. Major Al-Mustapha was informed of Abacha's condition at 5 a.m. and later sought to interrogate the pharmacist, who had already departed for Lagos.

The DSS later traced and interrogated her, but she maintained she did not kill Abacha, contradicting various conspiracy theories about his death.
