Al-Mustapha Refutes Amachree's Claims on Abacha's Death

Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha (retd.), the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State Gen.

Sani Abacha, has rejected claims made by Dennis Amachree, a former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), about Abacha's final moments. Amachree's account, presented in a recent book, has generated significant reactions.

Speaking to journalists after the Memorial Conference on General Hassan Usman Katsina at Arewa House in Kaduna on Saturday, Al-Mustapha described Amachree's claims as false and fabricated, urging Nigerians not to believe them. He asserted that he possesses CCTV footage that contradicts Amachree's narrative but did not provide details on whether he would release this evidence.

Al-Mustapha emphasized the inappropriateness of making allegations against a deceased individual who cannot defend themselves, stating, “Just ignore his lies. It’s bad to say such things about someone who is dead.” Abacha ruled Nigeria from November 17, 1993, until his death on June 8, 1998, under circumstances that remain controversial.
