Duane “Keffe D” Davis Found Guilty in Tupac Murder Case

On August 31, 2023, Duane “Keffe D” Davis was found guilty of first-degree murder in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur by a 12-person jury in Las Vegas. This verdict is the first guilty finding in the nearly 30-year-old case.

Davis, 63, was accused of orchestrating the drive-by shooting that resulted in Shakur's death, which occurred six days after he was shot on September 7, 1996, while riding in a BMW with Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight. The attack was allegedly in retaliation for a prior confrontation involving Shakur and Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, a member of the South Side Compton Crips, at the MGM Grand.

Although Davis did not fire the weapon, prosecutors argued he organized the attack and supplied the gun. The prosecution's case relied on Davis' own statements, including a 2008 police interview and his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend.

The defense contended that Davis exaggerated his involvement for personal gain and questioned the reliability of his statements.
