Farmers Rescued After Kidnapping in Abia State

On June 10, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM, two farmers, Mr. Onyinyechi Ekechukwu, a middle-aged woman, and Mr.

Izuchukwu Okechi, a 20-year-old from Umuezeroala community, were abducted by armed kidnappers near their farmland close to Akpahia in Ohuhu Community, Umuahia North Local Government Area, Abia State. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N10 million.

Following the incident, local youth, armed with machetes and dogs, organized a search operation in the nearby bush, successfully rescuing the victims. The operation was prompted by the victims' families and community members who mobilized quickly.

Although the victims sustained severe injuries during the attack, they were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment. The incident has raised security concerns in the area, prompting Hon.

Anderson Akaliro, a representative of Umuahia North State Constituency, to call for increased security measures and community vigilance to prevent future occurrences.
