UAE Outlines Conditions for One-Year Work Permit Ban

The United Arab Emirates has officially stated the conditions under which a foreign worker in the private sector can be banned from obtaining a new work permit for one year. This restriction is triggered by violations of Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021, which governs employment relationships.

The three specific scenarios that can lead to this ban include: 1) Terminating an employment contract during the probation period, where the worker resigns without the employer breaching their obligations; 2) A verified work abandonment report, where a worker stops attending work without authorization; and 3) Cancellation of a work permit issued under a fictitious establishment, leading to a one-year restriction on obtaining new employment. This ban prevents affected individuals from entering into new formal employment arrangements in the private sector during the restriction period.
