UAE Exempts Certain Workers from One-Year Ban

The United Arab Emirates has clarified the categories of foreign workers who may be exempt from a one-year employment ban imposed for work abandonment complaints. According to the UAE's official website, the ban applies to workers violating the Decree-Law and its Implementing Regulations regarding work abandonment.

However, exemptions are available for specific groups if the abandonment complaint is substantiated. The five categories eligible for exemption include: 1) Workers sponsored under family residence visas, 2) Workers applying for a new work permit with the same establishment, 3) Workers possessing professional skills or knowledge levels in demand in the UAE, 4) Holders of the UAE Golden Visa, and 5) Other occupational categories identified as necessary in the labor market through ministerial decisions and Cabinet-approved classifications.

The government aims to retain specialized talent and adapt to evolving labor market needs.
