UAE Mandates 16 Employer Duties for Domestic Workers

The United Arab Emirates has officially released a list of 16 obligations that employers must fulfill when hiring domestic workers, as stated on the UAE's government website. Employers are required to adhere to the terms of any employment contract and must also meet additional legal duties.

Key obligations include providing necessary facilities for effective work, appropriate accommodation, meals, and clothing, and ensuring timely payment of wages as per the contract. Employers must also provide health insurance, treat workers with respect, and ensure their safety.

Notably, employers are prohibited from confiscating workers' identification documents and must bear the costs of returning workers to their home countries. Additionally, in the event of a worker's death during service, employers are mandated to pay the deceased's heirs the wage for the month of death and any other entitlements.

The list aims to protect the rights of domestic workers, particularly migrant workers who may be vulnerable.
