UAE Issues Guide for Work Permit Renewal and Cancellation

The United Arab Emirates government has published a detailed guide for private sector workers and their employers regarding the renewal and cancellation of work permits. The renewal process consists of three key steps: first, the worker must meet all conditions that were in place when the permit was initially issued; second, all necessary documents, certificates, and qualifications must be submitted in full; and third, the applicable fees must be paid, which vary based on the type of permit and the classification of the employing company according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation's classification system.

Failure to complete any of these steps may result in the rejection or delay of the renewal application. Additionally, a separate four-step process for cancelling a work permit is outlined, which requires the employer to submit a formal cancellation request, attach all required information and documents, clear any outstanding fines, and confirm that the worker has received all entitlements owed before the cancellation can proceed.
